Belgravia
Plasterers in Belgravia
White stucco terrace and garden squares, listed almost throughout.
The grandest of the stucco
Belgravia is the most consistent stucco estate in London: white fronted terrace around garden squares, built to one plan in the 1820s and 1830s and very largely listed.
Internally that means very tall reception rooms, deep and often enriched cornice, and lath and plaster ceilings of considerable span. These are rooms where plasterwork is the architecture rather than a background to it.
What listing means in practice
Listing here covers the inside thoroughly. Original cornice, ceiling roses and mouldings are protected, so the work is matching, repairing and running new sections into existing ones.
Nothing enriched gets replaced with a plain modern section because it was quicker. Where a profile has been lost it is matched, and where consent is needed that is said before a date is agreed.
Access
No off street parking, inside the congestion charge, and a borough that manages the kerb closely. Everything arrives in planned drops with a bay suspended in advance.
Most houses are divided or in managed use, so the staircase is the route in and out and it is protected and cleaned at the end of every day.
What gets done in Belgravia
The work that comes up most in Belgravia is coving and repairs, with plastering close behind. The full list is here, and the other areas covered are here.
