Plasterers in Putney
Edwardian terraces up the hill, converted flats and newer blocks by the river.
Edwardian terrace and what it needs
Putney's residential streets are largely Edwardian and late Victorian terrace, generally a little later and a little larger than the stock further east. Bay fronts, solid walls, original ceilings and cornice in the rooms that have not been stripped.
The bay is where the plastering interest usually is. A bay window has more angles than the rest of the room put together, and both the coving and the skim have to hold a line round all of them. Getting a bay to read as one continuous surface is slower than the square end of the same room.
Flats, conversions and riverside blocks
A large share of the housing here is flats, from houses split into two or three through to purpose built blocks near the river. In a conversion the work is usually repair and junctions. In a newer block it is dry lining, with a taped and jointed finish to match rather than a skim.
Matching an existing finish matters more than it sounds. Skimming one wall of a room where the other three are taped board gives you a wall that takes paint differently from its neighbours, and it will show under a side light.
Access from the road and the river side
Wandsworth's parking controls cover Putney and the streets near the high street and the station are tight. Deliveries get timed and broken down, and bays get suspended where a scaffold or a large drop is needed.
Riverside blocks have their own rules: a goods lift with a size limit, booked loading times, and a concierge who needs notice. Boards get ordered to fit the lift rather than the room, which is the sort of detail that decides whether a job starts on time.
