Nine Elms
Plasterers in Nine Elms
Almost entirely new build, so almost entirely boarding and jointing.
A new part of London
Nine Elms is recent apartment building on former industrial and market land, with very little older stock among it. Concrete frames, metal stud partitions and plasterboard throughout.
That makes the work here unusually consistent. There is no lath and plaster, no solid wall to hack off, and very little wet plastering: it is framing, boarding, taping and matching.
What goes wrong in new flats
The common calls are cracking along board joints as a new building dries and settles, and making good after a layout change or after services have been moved.
A crack along a joint is not the same as a crack in plaster. It is usually the tape rather than the board, and it gets cut out and rejointed rather than filled over.
Building management
Almost every block here has booked delivery slots, a goods lift with stated dimensions and a management company that wants notice, and often paperwork, before anyone starts.
Those constraints are worked out before a date is given, because they decide the programme more than the size of the flat does.
