What the streets are made of

Earlsfield is largely late Victorian terrace on a grid between Garratt Lane and the Wandle, with pockets of interwar building. Family houses rather than flats for the most part, which shows in the work: whole house projects and layout changes rather than one room at a time.

The plastering that follows is mostly new work meeting old, with a finish that has to read flat across the join between fresh blockwork and hundred year old brick.

Rear extensions and what they need

Rear and side return extensions are common and the plastering comes at the end of a long build when everyone wants to be off site. That is exactly when it should not be rushed.

New blockwork and old brick move at different rates, so the basecoat and the mesh across that junction are what stop a crack opening along the line within the first winter.

Parking, and the Wandle side

Wandsworth's controlled parking covers the whole area and the streets near the station are full by mid morning. A bay suspension gets arranged before the start where scaffold or a large delivery is needed.

Some of the streets nearest the river are narrow enough that a long board cannot be turned at the front door. Board sizes get chosen for the house rather than the invoice.
